St James - 207 for 8

Arun Wanderers - 105 all out

Obliged to put St James in to bat because of our own weak batting, Arun toiled manfully for two and a half hours under a blistering sun.  We had a measure of control in the first 20 overs and at one point St.James were 65 for 3.

In the last 10 overs, however, a further 105 runs were added, although Jamie Carter and Laurie Mellor worked hard for their two and three wicket hauls respectively.  The fielding was enthusiastic and we kept to our task well, only becoming a bit ragged in the latter stages.

Although Sam Mellor gave a simple catch early on, Paul Smith played a number of lovely shots in compiling a well played 36; contributions also came from Chris, Jamie, Alan Carter and Rob Newey and we reached the comparative respectability of three figures.

In the close season we need to give some thought to improving our playing strength and giving the opposition a much harder fought game of cricket.

Sorry to include this pic Ian - but it does make rather a good action shot!
