Rottingdean won by 5 wickets.
 
Openers Chris Staight and skipper Graham Rees blunted a pacy and accurate new ball attack, laying the foundation for  a superb 130 run partnership between Sam Mellor (92 not out) and Paul Smith (52 not out).

Sam was all elegant drives and thoroughbred shots through the onside; Paul punched the ball powerfully off front and back foot and how the Club needs him as a more permanent member!  

Having declared, we thought this a competitive total, but Rottingdean scored briskly throughout and overhauled the total with time to spare, despite wickets from Jonty Perrott, Mark Rose and Laurie Mellor.
 
The game was played in a good spirit and in beautiful surroundings and we hope to have secured this as a regular fixture.

President of Rottingdean  CC is well known actor Michael Jayston, (Outside Edge, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy etc.), and he has kindly agreed to be the guest speaker at our Annual Dinner, to be held in March.  We will let you have details nearer the time and EVERYONE - whether Cricket Club Member or not - will be invited.  Michael is an excellent speaker with a fund of anecdotes and humour.
