With a very appropriate adjective preceding it, the word dross was a fitting description of our efforts on Sunday, particularly in the batting department, although to be fair we were outplayed in all areas.

The visitors, having lost the toss, were asked to field, and their performance with the ball, and in the field, was aided by some pretty irresponsible batting.  Maybe we were over confident following the performance at East Preston, but quite simply, with the exception of Graham Rees (20) and a late rally by Jamie and David, it was a dire effort all round.  That the extras totalled 45 sums it all up really and we can thank the opposition’s generosity in this area for at least getting us to three figures.

A score of 100 was never really defendable once the openers had knocked off half the total, despite spirited efforts from Jamie and David, again!  Laurie decided to give it a go with the spinners and, despite too many loose deliveries from Monty, they did manage to remove 4 batsmen before Roehampton inevitably passed our meagre total.  Laurie’s 2 wickets went for a very respectable 17 runs, whilst Monty took 2-42.  A mention here for Sam’s efforts behind the stumps - two excellent stumpings and a miserly amount of byes.

And finally a word about the opposition.  As a fielding unit they were far superior, and it was great to hear that they have secured a good number of fixtures since their first game against us earlier this season.  They won comfortably and fully deserved their win.
