This game was not short of entertainment, with the result going to the wire and Wanderers only just getting over the line. It was a game that conjured up drama by the bucket load and a fair few fine performances along the way. Any game that produces a century, a fifty and a 5 for     is never going to be short on the entertainment stakes and the two sides managed to accumulate 37 fours and 9 sixes.

Wanderers were put in and somehow contrived to get themselves in a bit of a stew at 31-4, not disastrous at the time, but at less than 2 an over, it was looking dodgy to say the least. Enter man of the match Graham Rees, with his maiden club fifty, initially grinding out of a difficult situation but then picking up in pace to give the later batsman a better base to work from. Still behind an acceptable run rate, the responsibility lay with Jamie and Monty to see out the overs. The pair proceeded to put the Roehampton bowlers to the sword with a 50 partnership in around 8 overs, Jamie hitting 28, including a superb pull for six, and Monty not out on 32. Both showed the benefit of punishing the ball that was there to be hit, and it was in no way a ‘slogfest’, with wanderers reaching a very healthy 186. Other innings to mention included Ian Clarke (16) and Sam (18). For the visitors Brown 3-18 was leading wicket taker though praise must also go to Jimmy who opened the bowling and at one stage was going for just a run a ball.

In response, Roehampton followed our lead, with early wickets indicating that it was possible Wanderers would have a comfortable win. Not so!  Enter the hero of the hour, the Babe Ruth of club cricket, the inimitable KC Brown. First game of cricket and he hit’s 110 which included 4 successive 6’s off Skip (sorry skip!). We could not even claim three strikes and out, he was awesome and it was a mark of the sporting approach of Roehampton that he retired, having made mincemeat of the bowling attack. His leaving the scene meant it was down to Wanderers’ young guns Jamie (5 wkts) and Jonty (3wkts) finally getting us home by 10 runs in the fading light.

A great game played in terrific spirit. The man of the match was clearly KC Brown with Wanderers man of the match being Graham who laid the foundation for the later batsman, closely followed by Jamie’s all round performance.
