Arun Wanderers 134 for 9 in 40 overs
Roehampton 124 all out.

Arun won by 10 runs.

On a lovely day when England were saving the test match, Arun got off to a dreadful start and were deep in trouble at 30 for 4.  A 75 run partnership between Jamie Carter (47) and Ian Clarke (18) dug us out of a hole. Jamie played beautiful shots either side of the wicket and Ian continues his rapid improvement this season.  Still we reckoned our final score to be at least 25 runs light.

Jamie bowled beautifully, removing Roehampton’s top order, and soon they were 25 for 4.  Skipper Mark Evans, Sam’s cousin, compiled a superb 50 and the score slowly mounted, but we continued to take wickets regularly, Chris, Laurie, and newcomer Tom, chipping in with useful wickets.

Skipper Graham Rees handled his bowling changes skilfully and our fielding was a distinct improvement on previous weeks.  With ten runs to win, we took the last Roehampton wicket and it was great to record our first win of the season.

Thanks to Jan Staight for the lovely tea and to all the supporters who came to watch - it’s great having you along.
