Ashling 22nd May
This was the first game of the season against new opposition.
Ashling batted first and a good start was made by opening bowlers L Mellor & J Carter who picked up a wicket each. Young guns Zac & Jordan carried on where the openers left off, with some economical bowling, again picking up a wicket each. A short spell from trainee spinner Adam and a varied contribution from the skipper brought two more wickets, restricting Ashling to 149 for 6.
After a good tea, enjoyed by all (many thanks to Nikki & Bruno), AWCC went into bat with a realistic chance of getting the runs and a steady start by Graham & Jordan increased hopes of a victory. However, as is the case in too many matches, AWCC managed to collapse after losing top order batsmen for too few runs. Phil held steady for awhile, putting together the top score and James did exceptionally well to hang in there for so long.
In the end Ashling bowled Arun out for a lowly 60, a disappointing end to a promising start. The skipper’s choice for Arun’s man of the match goes to Phil Atherton who kept wicket well and tried to dig us out of a hole with the bat.
