Laurie Mellor
Leg spinner and middle order Batsman
Age: Late Fifties.

Now in his 104th season with the club, Laurie is a swashbuckling middle to lower order batsman with an aggressive, attacking batting style reminiscent of Matthew Hayden at his peak

A cameraman’s dream, Laurie holds the world record for “holding the pose” after the ball has been bowled, once remaining in the same position for 5 days, 3 hours and 12 minutes, finally being removed by the opposing club’s groundsman who needed to prepare the wicket for the following game

The club’s leading wicket-taker by a distance, Laurie is closing in on an incredible 200 wickets for the club. A very good slip fielder as well, Laurie has taken a huge amount of catches for the club (both pre and post-war) and rarely drops those that he can reach

Has dismissed his son Sam an approximate 4,792 times in nets, who still hasn’t learnt that charging his Father’s bowling every time will generally result in him being bowled/stumped without fail
