Your intrepid reporter Monty has a job on his hands today! Reporting on a game he did not see, without the scorebook to hand. Yet by my Sherlock Holmes deductions, I have contrived to put together something akin to what happened.
Really, I don’t need the scorebook, given that one piece of irrefutable evidence I had to work on was that Al top scored with 12, Laurie was an equal 2nd top scorer with 2 runs, and the whole side totalled 25. I don’t know how easily that score was knocked off, but really I guess that’s pretty irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that we have reached an all time low. This despite the fact that our pre-season net time was probably as great, if not greater than, any local side and that we also had the benefits of qualified coaching.
Obviously, when playing at Ford, you just don’t know the strength of the side they can put out, until the day, and clearly they had some really good bowlers. However, unless Freddie Flintoff has been away from cricket for reasons the press are unaware off, then I cannot quite understand 25 all out. But the facts speak for themselves and it’s now about how the side recovers from the debacle.
Reflecting on previous highs this season, individually, and as a team, we have made decent scores and I don’t think we have to worry too much about our bowling strength. Our fielding has been of a good standard and we have always conducted ourselves well.
Having had a brief chat with Laurie and Al, they both appeared to see the “amusing” side of it all. From now on I am sure it will get better and lets begin with an improved game against St James. As I write, I have just received the scores, and was pleased to see that Rob and Tony had success with the ball and that Dan got off the mark.
Well done all for keeping a smile on the face of cricket because I am currently listening to India all but wrap up the test. God bless you all and look forward to Sunday
