East Preston 215-7 beat AWCC 165-7

Our last fixture of the season saw a return fixture with East Preston.  Both sides were strengthened from the first game, with AWCC calling on the return of Matt Staight for the second time this season and also Paul Hewitt and Guy Souch from Littlehampton.  It was good to meet up again with Paul who has been to a number of winter nets and is a good friend of the club.

EP batted first and got off to a cracking start.  A long day in the field looked imminent, but at the right time we were rescued by very tight bowling from Paul Hewitt, who opened with 3 maidens and eventually took 2-44.  Tony Fuller took 2-36, the return of the opening bowlers saw late wickets fall, but powerful hitting in the last 7 overs meant a competitive 215 was posted.

In reply we also got off to a flyer, with an opening partnership of 84 between Guy and Graham Rees, with guy hitting 73 in good time and looking well set before being bowled.  Our run rate was around 5.5 at this time and we were set for a good go at the target.  It failed to materialise though, with the next 4 wickets going more cheaply to leave us on 152-5 and the required rate being up to 10 an over.  With a fast outfield this was still a chance but unfortunately the two guys who put on 32 in even time in the last game were stuck in the pavilion as Arun batted out the last overs.

So - an opportunity lost but many good points to take as we competed well, with special mention to Graham for a solid innings.  Enjoy the close season and see you all at the AGM.  Thanks again to Guy, Paul and Matt for turning out, and for the spirit in which they played the game.
