Our first game at the Climping ground was an inter-club friendly that was played in a great spirit.  Due to the fact that we had no scorebook and the fact that the figures were not to be used as part of the season's averages, only a rough idea of the scores can be presented.  A very few sad people kept a note of how many runs they scored, whilst conveniently forgetting how many times they were dismissed!  Or equally forgetting how many runs the wickets may have cost. Of course the writer was not amongst those few, although 4-2-2-9 wasn't a bad return!!

There were a number of performances that merit a mention.  Al Evans showed enormous resolve in staying in the middle for over an hour and is knocking on the door for an openers slot.  Dave Stapley's wily off spin, produced figures of 4 for plenty and he also held two fine catches.  Young up and coming seam bowler Matthew West clean bowled Coach Staight with a delivery that was pure textbook, unlike the stroke.  Overall, the day was very positive, with players having the opportunity to experience match conditions and one hopes that it was of benefit.  It was fantastic to see so many players attend, with ultimately approximately 14 a side!

The rough scores were as follows - the Arun Wanderers 2nd eleven hit approx 130, only for the first team to pass this total for the loss of only 15 wickets.  It was an excellent social event too with twenty plus players and supporters retiring to the local pub for a well-deserved drink.  Many thanks also to Sally for the lovely spread provided at tea.
