Carshalton 23 May 2010
Arun Wanderers 142 all out lost to Carshalton 146 for 6, by 4 wickets

Report by Sam Mellor

Arun faced Carshalton with a strong line-up, following the narrow defeat to Washington the previous week.  Jamie Carter, Jordan Atkinson, Chris Seaton and Paul Smith all came back into the side to boost both the batting and the bowling

However, things did not go according to plan when Arun lost their top 3 before 50 was on the board.  Graham Rees continued his good form from the previous week with a more measured innings before being bowled for 22.  At 64-4 it was not looking great, but the destructive pair of Pete Mules (15) and Ian Clarke (29) put on 43 in extremely quick time to give the innings some impetus.  Unfortunately, they departed in quick succession, and Arun found themselves 108-8

Patrick Atherton then defied his harshest critic (himself) to blaze a superb 26 and take the team total up to a respectable 142

Scorecard

G. Rees   22

Unfortunately, the Carshalton openers established themselves quickly and begin to make light work of the modest target.  They had already put 40 on the board when the first wicket was taken, and although Pete Mules – bouncing back nicely from the distressing performance of his countrymen the week before - bowled a brilliant spell of 3-18, it was not enough to prevent Carshalton from easing home for the loss of 6 wickets.  Other performances of note include Laurie Mellor’s 2 wickets in a short, but tricky, spell of 5 overs, and Ian Clarke’s two catches, one of which was a spectacular diving catch on the boundary.
